Cabinet allows vendors using tablets, smartphones instead of cash registers

The decision will save businesses nearly UAH 2 billion on the purchase of cash registers and monthly payments for their use.

The corresponding decision was made at a government meeting on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman noted that entrepreneurs had long been forced to purchase expensive equipment and pay monthly fees for operating it.

“Imagine that, this was all a monopoly thing where those ‘hustlers’ enshrined the right to sell cash registers for UAH 20,000 each and have the state fine businesses if there is no such equipment. People also had to pay UAH 200 per month for [using] each device,” the prime minister said, noting that the new government decision will allow businesses saving about UAH 2 billion on these additional payments.

“It’s not business to sell cash registers, it was a monopoly to put businesses on a needle. Now our system makes it possible to refuse from cash registers. This is libration from cash-register slavery,” the premier said.
