The first tranche is expected to be disbursed as early as September 2018.
The European Parliament in its Wednesday vote supported the European Commission’s proposal to allocate the fourth package of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine, amounting to EUR 1 billion.
The majority of MEPs have supported the move, with 527 votes cast in its favor.
As reported earlier, on June 13, during the debate in the European Parliament, European Commission Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis announced a number of requirements to Ukraine regarding the provision of new macro-financial assistance.
He said the European Parliament, the EU Council and the European Commission agreed with the EP initiative to add a joint statement before the legislative decision. The official drew attention to the fact that the joint statement refers to the political prerequisites for Ukraine to adhere to democratic mechanisms, including a multi-party parliamentary system, rule of law, and guarantees of respect for human rights. Secondly, the statement makes it clear that the fight against corruption will be a key political condition of the Memorandum of Understanding that should be agreed between the EU and Ukraine on the provision of macro-financial assistance.
Also, he said, requirements for combating money laundering and tax evasion were being put forward.
